Resolution
is comprised of two components: "Line Resolution" (Spatial)
and shades of "Brightness"(Bit Depth). Generally, when
we talk about "how sharp" a print is, we are talking about
"Spatial" resolution. Often discussed in"dpi",
in the digital world it is PPI [Pixels-Per-Inch]... there are NO
"dots" digital! However, the number of colors (Bit Depth)
can effects our acceptance of a photograph "sharpness".
Line
Resolution is expressed in rows and columns of pixel
(picture elements). e.g. 600x800; 2000x3000; etc. Many common computer
screen resolutions have standard names.

Color
Resolution
is expressed in bit depths: "1bit", "8bit",
"24bit", etc. These bit depths are the exponent of two
or 2 raised to the x power. The common color depths have standard
names:

Standard
Resolution:
There are no "standard" file sizes but digital file resolution
is defined by both "line" (spatial) and "brighness"
(depth) resolution. |
